I was looking at an article yesterday in the Realtor Magazine I receive monthly, and I found it really interesting because it was talking about the 21 hot housing trends for 2015. As I was reading it I realized I was already seeing some of these things in our local market so I thought I’d share it with you. It will be a featured article in the upcoming Life at the Beach newsletter so you will be able to read the entire article for yourself then.
1. Color
What do you think the latest color is for 2015?
Coral.
It’s the easiest change for sellers to make, offering a big bang for the buck. And of course being here at the beach, coral is a very popular color.
It goes with so many different blues and greens and just really brightens up things! If you’re thinking about redoing your beach getaway, coral could be a color you might want to look into. They specifically call it Sherwin Williams Coral Reef 6006, if you want to know the hottest color.
2. Open Floor Plans
We’ve always seen open floor plans, but now we are really opening up the house. We are seeing that more and more buyers really want the kitchen and all the walls to be big open spaces.
Everything seems to come toward the kitchen which ultimately brings everybody together.
3. Quartz
Quartz started gaining momentum in countertops over granite and now there is a product called quartzite, and it’s becoming an even hotter contender than the natural stone. Quartzite resembles a lot like marble, but it doesn’t have the drawback of staining easily. You might want to check into quartzite as a possible option if you’re going to be looking to update your countertops or your bathroom vanity tops.
4. Multiple Master Suites
Multiple master suites have really become a hot thing. I’ve had in the last month two people contact me about wanting a property that has two master suites.
The reason for wanting or needing multiple master suites is that sometimes buyers have their older parents moving in with them or they have adult children. Some of them that may be somewhat disabled and really cannot live out on their own, but they want them to have their own master suite and their own bath for their own privacy and their own area.
This is becoming very popular, and I think builders are starting to pay attention to that when they’re building homes. The idea that there is not just one master anymore, that buyers are now looking for two.
BONUS! If you can get it all on one floor that makes it even more desirable to many growing families.
5. Grander Garages
I had a friend just recently that came to look at one of my listings, and she mentioned this in passing and I thought, “Well, I’ve never thought about that.”
Grander garages.
This particular customer of hers wanted to have a garage for four cars. Knowing that we don’t really have that a lot here in our area of Florida, the customer mentioned having a lift where you roll a car on one and then it lifts it up out of the way and you can roll the other car underneath it.
As fate would have it, in this article the author talks about having grander garages and being able to house cars on top or even one to go below.
6. White Kitchens
White kitchens really are still very hot items. I got to thinking about why that still is and it came to me that I think it’s because it is so easy to change whatever mood your color is in.
If one week/month/year you’re just all about red you can really pop that color on the white background with accents in your area rugs, linens and even your accent small appliances. And now so many companies have come out with retro colors in the greens, yellows and oranges, it is easy to change out quickly and affordably.
You don’t have to change all the cabinets. The white just goes with anything.
I hope you enjoyed some of these tips! This article will be featured in Life at the Beach in the next edition so be sure to read the rest of those hot trends.
